Nathan Beretta & Lazy Eye — Three Shows, One Special Run
Two award-winning, chart-topping blues acts are teaming up for a very special run of South Australian shows this September, as NSW guitar slinger Nathan Beretta joins Lazy Eye for three nights across three of the state's great live music rooms.
If you haven't caught Nathan Beretta live yet, here's what you need to know: he's a genuine powerhouse of the Australian blues scene. He first made his mark fronting the multi-award-winning Blue Eyes Cry, whose debut album sat at the top of the Australian Blues & Roots Charts for four months and earned him Best New Talent at the Chain Awards. Since going out under his own name, he's landed two No.1 albums on the same charts, and in 2024 he won the Sydney Blues Challenge and flew the flag for Australia at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. Steeped in the playing of Ronnie Earl, Albert Collins, Albert King and Buddy Guy, Nathan delivers the real deal — searing Fender tones, powerhouse vocals, and an "all killer, no filler" approach that has taken him to just about every blues festival stage in the country.
Alongside Nathan is your own Lazy Eye — two-time Australian Group of the Year at the Australian Blues Awards, and no strangers to Memphis themselves, having been the first band to represent South Australia at the International Blues Challenge, capping the trip with a set at the legendary B.B. King's Blues Club on Beale Street. Think B.B. King sharing a scotch with Booker T at the crossroads after midnight: the growl of a well-travelled Hammond B3, greasy guitar, harmonica, and a rhythm that gets under your skin.
The run kicks off on Friday 25 September at the Semaphore Workers Club — home to the famous Red Stage, where the best in blues and roots has played every Friday night for more than thirty years, right on the Esplanade with the sea air out front. It continues on Saturday 26 September at the Three Brothers Arms in Macclesfield, one of the great live music rooms in the Adelaide Hills, trading since 1841 with heritage stonework, open fires and gardens running down to the Angas. And it wraps up on Sunday 27 September at the Murray Delta Juke Joint in Goolwa, one of the most authentic juke-joint experiences you'll find this side of the Mississippi.
Three rooms, three very different nights, and two Memphis-tested acts bringing sweet soul, gutbucket blues and serious groove to every one of them. Whether you catch one show or all three, expect searing guitar, roaring Hammond organ and blues the way it's meant to be played.
